Here are the answers to a number of the questions that we are often asked. They are intended for guidance only and you may want more information that we give here.

- 1Can I choose my own fittings?
Yes, there is a minimum requirement as per Australian Standards but any other fittings may be added during the design stage.
- 2Can I have thicker material?
Yes, minimum material thickness is stipulated in AS1692 but often clients request thicker material to accommodate a corrosion allowance.
- 3Can I install my tank myself?
Austank recommends that their tanks be installed by an industry recognised installer to maintain the tank’s warranty and to ensure compliance with Australian Standards.
- 4Can I pay using my credit card or paypal facilities?
Yes, we now accept all major credit cards via our paypal account, although some fees & charges may apply.
- 5Can I see my tank being built?
Yes, all of our tanks are built in our factory in Carrum Downs, Victoria where you are able to view certain critical stages by appointment.
- 6Can you build a tank to my own specifications?
Yes, all of our tanks are custom built and we would provide a quote based on your drawings/design. Austank would make a recommendation should your design not be fully compliant with current Australian standards
- 7Do you build water storage tanks for domestic purposes.
Generally we only construct large volume water tanks, on site, in excess of 1 million litres.
- 8Do you provide certification paperwork
Yes, Austank provides a manual upon completion which includes test certificates, as-built drawings and general information.
- 9Does Austank deliver?
Austank prefers to organise delivery of the tanks as the correct vehicle can be booked. This service is offered at the customers cost.
- 10How long does it take to build a tank?
Depending on size, it can take anywhere from 3 days for a small rectangular tank to 12 weeks for a canopy tank including pipework. Lead times are negotiable and are dependent upon our suppliers and current workshop loadings at the time of receipt of approved drawings.
- 11How long will my tank last?
Tanks can last in excess of 25 years. However, in order for this lifespan, tanks need to be serviced and maintained regularly. Details of required processes in which to service your tank can be found in AS1940.
- 12Should my tank be serviced?
Yes, as per AS1940 it is a requirement to regularly service you tank. Depending on volume your tank will require services at different intervals, including major services at 5 & 10 years respectively
- 13What tanks do you keep in stock?
All of our tanks are built to order, but should a tank be required urgently Austank can review it’s production schedule to enable this to happen.
- 14Why should I buy your tank when I can a buy a Chinese made tank for a cheaper price?
Austank ensures that your tank is fully compliant to Australian Standards AS1692-2008, AS1940-2004 and AS1657-1992 as well as guaranteeing the quality of material, workmanship and coating. We know the Australian Standards inside out. They are our business and we care about yours, so we will make sure that your tanks comply with them.

Vertical Tank Installation for Carrum Downs
TriTech Lubricants suffered a major loss when their premises were destroyed in a major fire, so Austank were engage to build and replace all the tanks for their Oil Blending Plant.
This consisted of a multitude of vertical storage tanks with an array of outlets, inlets and fittings to meet the growing requirements of this new facility.
